At Catalano Construction, we all come to work every day to establish foundations. We construct the groundwork for buildings, schools, parks, and other facilities that shape people’s lives. In 32 short years, we grew from a humble home office to one of the most trusted and respected excavation companies in the industry. This is how we got here.

We focus on the details.

We set ourselves apart with a personal approach to our work. By focusing on details, relationships, and doing the right thing, the company has built a reputation that’s brought us to the pinnacle of the industry.

“We pay more attention to the details and our relationships. Our goal is to do what we do better than anyone else.”

-Jay Catalano, President of Catalano Construction, speaking to Construction Today Magazine

We work locally.

We take pride in making an impact on our local communities. We employ people that live in our community, and we work on big projects that will be used by people in our community.

We understand that our work is an extension of ourselves, as well as a representation of ourselves. We’re proud to tell people that we helped build the school they learn in, the office they work in, and the park they relax in.

We embrace new trends and technology.

We’re in constant pursuit of new knowledge. If there’s a better way to do something, we do it. If there’s new equipment to make the job faster, easier, safer, and less costly, we employ it.

Whether it be adapting to new surveying equipment for more accurate estimates, or utilizing aerial footage so we can track projects from a bird’s eye view; Catalano Construction is pushing the industry out of the “old ways” of doing things and into the future.

We embrace sustainability.

It is incredibly difficult for an excavation project to be considered “green.” Don’t worry, though - our experts have got you covered. We’re members of the U.S. Green Building Council and receive regular training on best practices. Our company is comprised of trusted advisors that can help you recycle, divert waste, and earn every valuable point needed on your way to achieving LEED Certification.

We understand our employees are our greatest asset.

We work in an incredibly complex and technical environment. There is a tiny sliver of the population that can dissect a blueprint and envision a foundation for a large building, let alone operate our equipment. Our employees not only identify trouble before it can occur, they also provide insight into how we can optimize our process. Our employees consistently go the extra mile to get the job done and set us apart from everyone else in the industry - and for that, we are forever grateful. We are nothing without the people that work here.

Our Mission

Our mission is to be the preeminent provider of excavation and construction services.

We both: 1) consistently improve our process, product, technology, and equipment; and 2) maintain a customer-centric attitude that is rooted in our relationships, communication, and integrity.

This combination has established us as one of the most agile, efficient, innovative, and trustworthy companies in the industry.

Our History

In 1989, Bernie Catalano started a small site work company out of a spare bedroom of his home. With close to two decades of experience at the time, he set out to realize a childhood dream of owning his own construction company. He knew that the cornerstone of the company would be the ability to deliver high quality projects, and to establish long-term relationships.

Through the years, the company has grown from that small home office to become one of the more well respected site construction companies in the state of Rhode Island & southeastern Massachusetts. Through the hard work of our detail oriented and dedicated employees, we have developed strong relationships with project owners, general contractors, vendors, and suppliers.

In 2013,  Bernie passed away unexpectedly. With the company then entering our 25th year in business, our employees and family members continued with heavy hearts and a greater sense of pride. Bernie's son, Jason took up the mantle after working as a Project Manager within the company for over a decade. As this family business continues our second generation, we take the values and morals Bernie embodied, and build upon them with new projects, experiences, and relationships.
